A 16-year-old was injured in a shooting near Brickyard Plaza Friday night and investigators have asked the public to come forward with any information.
Several 911 calls reported the shooting near a parking lot at 3292 South Richmond Street at about 10:39 p.m., according to a news release from Salt Lake City Police. Officers found parked cars with bullet holes and multiple shell casings on the ground when they arrived at the scene.
Investigators determined that two cars pulled into the parking lot when at least one of their passengers started shooting at a truck with two people standing nearby, according to the release. At least one of the individuals next to the truck returned fire, authorities believe.

Officers later learned that someone dropped off a 16-year-old who had been shot in the ankle at a local hospital. The teen is believed to be involved in the shooting, according to the release, but investigators are still working to determine the 16-year-old’s exact role.
The teen’s injuries are non-life threatening, authorities said. Police also found a bullet hole in the front window of a nearby business, but no further injuries were reported.
The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit is still investigating the shooting. Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call 801-799-3000.
